INTEREST IN THOMAS SANKARA AT ASA IN BOSTON
More than 40 titles by Thomas Sankara, who was a revolutionary leader and President of Burkina Faso from 1983 to 1987, were sold at the recent conference of the African Studies Association held in Boston November 20-24, 2019.
1,700 attended, many from African countries such as Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, as well as Portugal, Canada and the UK. At the Pathfinder booth discussions about the books were non-stop with academics and students. Many stopped when they saw Thomas Sankara Speaks. Other titles on women were popular such as Women in Cuba: the Making of a Revolution Within the Revolution. Among the dozens of presentations on politics, economics, art, and literature of Africa some centered on the issues of healthcare in Africa. Pathfinder volunteers displayed a new upcoming book by Pathfinder titled Red Zone: Cuba and the Fight Against Ebola in Western Africa by author Enrique Ubieta Gómez. Many signed up on the mailing list to be notified when the book becomes available.
