2019 ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF AFRICAN AMERICAN LIFE AND HISTORY
Around 1500 professors, teachers, community activists and others gathered in Charleston, South Carolina, October 2nd to 6th, 2019 for the 104th annual conference of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
This year’s conference theme of "Black migrations" framed the 200+ panel presentations on history, politics, art, literature, and more. An attractive booth displaying the entire range of Pathfinder Press books quickly became an active locale for political discussion, debate, and book sales. Even before the conference opened, as Pathfinder Press volunteers were still hanging posters and putting books out, conference participants stopped to talk and buy books. Others came directly from the presentations to continue discussions begun there with Pathfinder Press volunteers and check out titles related to the topics. Top selling titles included Malcolm X, Black Liberation, and the Road to Workers Power; Are They Rich Because They’re Smart?; The Jewish Question, Thomas Sankara Speaks; and one of Pathfinder’s newest books, In Defense of the US Working Class.
